Module 5 - 300

The Importance of Master Data

In this class, our lecturers explain the paramount importance of what we refer to as “master data”.  This is a catch-all term used to describe a single set of universally-acknowledged, clean and centralised product data that can then be integrated into a PLM solution.

The pitfalls of working without this agreed data are clearly set out, and our consulting lecturers make their case for the necessity of having it in place prior to beginning any PLM project.

More perhaps than any other benefit of PLM, transitioning from a combination of Word files, email, and disconnected systems to a single, agreed “version of the facts” can improve efficiency, eliminate redundancy, and deliver compounded benefits at every stage of the product lifecycle.
